"It’s excellent that the Programmed ground staff show initiative and want to improve the ground’s appearance at the university."

Mark Corea, Grounds Curator
Monash University

Project Description

Monash had been using an in-house team to manage the grounds maintenance, but made the decision to move to an outsourced model in order to streamline service delivery, maximise return from time and resources invested, and improve the overall condition of its gardens and grounds.

Project Solution

In late 2008, Programmed assumed management of the grounds at the Clayton, Berwick and Peninsula campuses, comprising around 140 hectares of diverse landscape. The size and diversity of these campuses alone presented significant challenges relating to the delivery of grounds maintenance.

On contract commencement, the first priority was to bring the three campuses up to a high standard of presentation through basic maintenance tasks such as pruning, feeding and weed control. The team has since moved into a more proactive phase, seeking to make improvements and upgrades to various garden areas and sporting facilities, including a recent Programmed-initiated decision to update and redesign the main roundabout at the university’s biggest campus, located in Clayton.

Project Outcome

Monash University has been very pleased with the results achieved by the Programmed team and the resources Programmed has invested in the university’s grounds. The improved appearance of the gardens and quality of the grounds, particularly the sporting turf, have so pleased the university that Programmed now manages the grounds for all six Monash Australian campuses.
