NSW William Booth House Salvation Army

Surry Hills, NSW

"Not only did Programmed do the heavy lifting in negotiating the colour change with the council’s heritage officer, but they also offered a quality solution at a lower price point than other players in the market."

Our Customer

Across Australia, the Salvation Army brings hope and compassion to people that need it the most. As a church and charity, their work supports the welfare of people and those that may be experiencing hardship.

Project Description

Located in the heart of Surry Hills and a precinct of heritage significance, William Booth House is a warehouse conversion used by the Salvation Army as a rehabilitation and treatment centre. The Salvation Army engaged Programmed to provide an exterior painting solution to the heritage façade of William Booth House to lift the building’s appearance. Being on the corner of two busy city streets, the positioning of the building had difficult access and required a solution that would not obstruct pedestrian flow or interfere with daily site operations.

Project Solution

To change the building’s colour scheme, Programmed needed to obtain a heritage exemption through the City of Sydney Council. On behalf of the Salvation Army, we successfully negotiated with the Council’s heritage officer for a new scheme that utilised neutral colours from both modern and traditional Dulux colour palettes. The works were completed with Programmed’s expert team of abseil painters, removing the need for a B-Class hoarding, permits and costly access equipment. By completing works via abseil, we were able to provide the Salvation Army with considerable cost savings. This would also minimise disruption to patients coming for treatment. As works coincided with COVID-19, Programmed ensured strict hygiene measures and social distancing while working on the façade.
