Celebrating Our Achievements: Programmed’s Finalist Nominations in the Transpower STAR Awards

18 September 2025

We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected as finalists for two categories in the Transpower STAR Awards. These industry-wide awards champion best practices in health, safety, and wellbeing in work on New Zealand’s National Grid. Being selected as a finalist, regardless of the final outcome, is a fantastic achievement. We have been judged against some seasoned industry players – many of whom have been providers to Transpower for over 20 years. As new entrants, we have already earned a seat alongside them.

This recognition is a testament to all the hard work and focus we have collectively invested in building the right safety culture in our team. A culture where we look after ourselves and our colleagues.

Our Shortlisted Nominations

Frontline Leadership Award
Nominee: Victor Howe, Programmed Facility Management
Victor Howe has made a significant impact since joining Programmed Facility Management in June 2024. As a new team member and a safety leader, Victor quickly became a role model of Programmed’s values. Despite having no prior experience in transmission or this industry, Victor consistently demonstrates initiative, humility, and a deep commitment to his team’s wellbeing.

Victor Howe, Facilities Services Technician

Hauora Wellbeing Award
Nominee: Fostering Culture and Connection – Programmed Facility Management
Programmed’s Facilities Services Technicians (FSTs) are spread from Southland to Northland, often working alone in remote and high-risk environments. Recognising the importance of staying connected outside of structured safety systems, we launched a national WhatsApp group to maintain the camaraderie, morale, and support built during the team’s initial six-week residential onboarding program. What began as a casual forum for shared updates has since evolved into a dynamic and valuable channel for safety culture, peer learning, and team engagement.

Scope of Services Provided to Transpower
We are proud to be a key service partner to Transpower, New Zealand’s national grid operator, under a multi-year contract starting 1 July 2024. This partnership covers 774 sites, including high-voltage substations and transmission towers. Our services include:

  • Facilities Management (FMS): HVAC systems, fire protection, access control, generators, grounds maintenance, pest and vegetation management, and fencing.
  • Maintenance Activities: Reactive and planned maintenance, condition assessments, asset management, and project works.

  • Transition & Mobilisation: Discovery workshops, joint planning, onboarding of new staff, and logistics coordination.

Strategic Importance and Impact
This partnership is a major expansion of our footprint in New Zealand’s electricity sector, joining customers like Chorus. Key benefits include seamless transition, timely delivery, enhanced service network, local vendor opportunities, and innovative technologies like drone inspections.
Outstanding work team! Being a finalist is a testament to our collective effort in building a transparent and supportive safety culture. Well-deserved recognition and fantastic to be selected as a finalist for two key awards.

What’s Next?
The STAR Award winners will be announced on November 27th. We look forward to celebrating our achievements and continuing to strive for excellence in all that we do.
