Project Description:
Devonport Apartments in New Plymouth, a large apartment block, was celebrating its 100-year anniversary and approached Programmed for a repaint as well as to provide maintenance services thereafter to keep the building looking good.
The project required repainting all elevations, including internal stairwells, balconies, and roof elevations, with a combination of access methods, such as abseil teams, traffic management, and Elevated Work Platforms (EWP). We completed the project within the eight month timeframe and used approximately 2500 litres of paint.
Project Solution:
To safely and efficiently reach the areas that had access and heights challenges, we deployed the Programmed abseil team from Palmerston North. This assured the customer of an expert team, local knowledge and a strong quality outcome.
The 100-year old building’s repaint needed experience with heritage overlays. The involvement of the Dulux team ensured the correct colours and application in line with heritage requirements. As a colour change would occur, the customer also received a visualization of the site in the proposed colours. Having worked with Davenport Apartments on a previous contract, we understood their requirements.
Outcome:
Our team worked around various site conditions, such as residents, high-security areas, and sensitive information, to provide a significantly improved outcome. They worked around the site’s residents, car parks, public holidays, and Christmas to complete the project on time. We also planned works so that any other repair works by third party contractors needing heights access could simultaneously utilise scaffolds we had already set up. This saved the customer both time and money, adding to the project’s overall success.
The most significant difference post-completion was the transformation of the building’s colour, which fully refreshed the site – a change that was noticed and positively received by both the public and residents.
We are proud to have successfully met the customer’s expectations for this project, and to have contributed to the 100-year anniversary celebrations of the Devonport Apartments in New Plymouth.
