Work is underway at Mt Albert War Memorial Park on a garden upgrade that will become a lasting ANZAC memorial space for the local community.
This project has been designed alongside the council contract facility manager for the Albert Eden Local Board area with a focus on creating something that will continue to develop and strengthen over time. One ANZAC garden area has now been completed with the remaining sections to be delivered over the next 10 days.
The work completed so far reflects a strong focus on quality and long term outcomes. Existing timber edging was removed and replaced with new kerbing installed by our trades team, giving the garden a cleaner and more durable finish. All existing plants were removed and the garden was rebuilt with improved soil to create a better foundation for healthy growth.
The planting layout has been carefully planned to create structure and meaning. White Camellia Sasanqua ‘Setsugekka’ has been planted in a cross formation with Callistemon ‘Little John’ positioned at each corner. As the garden matures this will be shaped into box hedging to form a defined and impressive memorial feature.
This type of work relies on close coordination between teams on the ground and strong collaboration with our client. From planning through to delivery, the focus has been on working safely maintaining high standards and getting the detail right.
ANZAC spaces carry real significance and it is important that they are delivered with care and respect. This project is designed to grow into something that reflects that over time while providing a place for the community to connect and reflect.
We look forward to completing the remaining areas and seeing the full space come together.
