Programmed Facility Management is proud to celebrate the success of the Ngā Iti Kahurangi programme, which has won its division in the Leadership category at the 2026 Āpōpō Asset Management Excellence Awards.
Delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Education and a wider network of specialist partners, Ngā Iti Kahurangi continues to set a benchmark for how asset management can create meaningful outcomes for schools and communities across Aotearoa.
Ngā Iti Kahurangi, meaning “small and highly valued treasures”, supports small and remote schools throughout New Zealand by improving learning environments and strengthening long term property outcomes for future generations.
The programme was recognised for delivering a step change in the way the Ministry of Education plans, prioritises and invests in its national education property portfolio. Operating across diverse rural and remote communities, the initiative combined strong asset management frameworks, data led decision making and Te ao Māori perspectives to improve transparency, resilience and long term stewardship of public assets.
Programmed has proudly partnered with the Ministry of Education since 2012 to help deliver facilities management services across New Zealand schools. Through the Ngā Iti Kahurangi programme, Programmed has supported upgrades and improvement works across hundreds of schools in the Upper North Island, including:
- LED lighting upgrades
- Acoustic improvements
- Thermal insulation installations
- Carpet tile replacements
- Electrical safety upgrades
- Asbestos remediation and compliance management
The programme has also embraced innovation in delivery, using drone imagery, 3D scanning and detailed site assessments to improve planning and execution across complex and remote environments.
This award reflects the dedication of everyone involved in the programme, including project teams, contractors, suppliers, consultants and Ministry representatives who have worked collaboratively to deliver better outcomes for schools, learners, whānau and communities.
We are incredibly proud to have contributed to a programme that continues to make a lasting impact across Aotearoa and congratulate everyone involved in this achievement. To top it off, the 500th installation milestone was completed at a Programmed managed school, making this recognition even more special for the team.
This achievement comes during a significant milestone year for Programmed, as the company celebrates 75 years of supporting customers, communities and essential infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand. The recognition highlights Programmed’s ongoing commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes through strong partnerships, innovation and people led service delivery.
