Flying High at Tawaipareira Reserve – Programmed Begins Stage 3 of Waiheke Playground Project

23 October 2025

At Programmed Facility Management New Zealand, we’re proud to be back at beautiful Tawaipareira Reserve on Waiheke Island to kick off the next exciting phase of the Auckland Council playground development project.

Stage 3 is now underway and it’s all about fun, flow and future-proofing! The centrepiece? A brand-new flying fox installation, along with fresh garden landscaping and a gravel path network to link the existing amenities for better accessibility and a seamless visitor experience.

This work builds on Stage 2, which Programmed completed 18 months ago. That phase transformed the space with a new basketball court, pump track and extensive footpath network complemented by planted garden areas, a true community gem that’s become a favourite spot for both locals and visitors alike. We’ve also submitted a tender for Stage 4 — the final stage of works that will complete the playground vision for Tawaipareira Reserve. Auckland Council is yet to make a decision on how they will proceed, so we look forward to hearing the outcome in due course.

Stage 3 fast facts:

  • Started: 6 October 2025
  • Currently: Earthworks and foundation prep underway
  • Includes: Flying fox, new gardens, gravel path network
  • Estimated completion: 12 December 2025 – just in time for the busy summer season on Waiheke!

A big thanks to our staff, partners and Auckland Council for their continued collaboration and trust in Programmed’s ability to deliver quality community assets. We’re excited to bring this next stage to life and enhance the island’s already incredible offering.

Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses!
