Supporting New Zealandcoastline conservation efforts

3 July 2021

As part of New Zealand’s clean-up day in March, a group of Programmed workers volunteered their time to help cleanup their local community coastlines by picking up rubbish that had washed ashore or been left behind by beachgoers.

With good weather, positive energy and an eagerness to help, the team joined the Christchurch leg of the clean-up and got stuck into supporting New Zealand’s conservation efforts. Our workers experienced firsthand the impacts plastic pollution can have on our environment, marine wildlife and human health.

The event was run by Sustainable Coastlines, a charity that works with local communities to empower them to make changes that matter. They regularly host clean up and educational events as part of their ‘Love your Coast’ program.

The day was a success, with kilometres of shoreline cleaned and tonnes of waste removed from New Zealand waters. Cleaning up our beaches and reducing waste is critical for helping save our marine animals from plastic and rubbish pollution. It just goes to show how much of a positive impact we can all make by contributing a small amount of time and energy to our communities.
